In the event of an accident whereby loss or damage may result in a claim when your vessels:-
- Collide with another vessel
- Collide with third party property
- Cause third party injury or where there is injury to crew
The following procedures are to be observed:
- Give immediate notice to CIC. If the vessel is abroad, notice of loss is to given to the nearest Lloyd’s agent.
- Provide a written statement of circumstances surrounding the incident to CIC as soon as practicable, along with estimates for repairs.
- Do not make or give any statements acknowledging responsibility for the accident.
- Obtain the names and addresses of the owner and/or agent of the other vessel and/or owner of the damaged property.
- Do not appoint a surveyor nor carry out repairs before receiving instructions from the Insurer.
- All reasonable measures should be taken to avert or minimize further loss or damage.
Where your vessel is damaged by another vessel, the following additional measures should be taken:
- File immediate notice of claim on the owner and Master of the other vessel
- Request the Master of the vessel to notify the owner’s Protection and Indemnity Club or the owners’ Insurers
- Obtain a copy of the vessel’s Log Book
- Notify the local Agents of the vessel
In the case of injury the following information is required:
- Accident reports, giving details of the person, incident and injury (if known)
- Any first aid or medical treatment given including details of how and when the victim was moved from the scene of the accident and by whom
- Statement from the injured person (if possible) and statements from any witnesses
